DSP is a CPM layer. It is not Sponsored Display, and it is not a substitute for search.
Best fit: Page 1 already holds on money keywords, and you can fund a real flight without starving SP
Amazon DSP is how you buy Amazon’s shopper audiences on a CPM: Amazon.com, Prime Video, Twitch, Fire TV, IMDb, and third-party supply, in display, online video, audio, and Streaming TV. Self-serve puts you in the console. Amazon’s managed-service option typically starts around $50,000 USD (varies by country) — that is a different product, not a vanity upgrade.
It is not Sponsored Display. Sponsored Display is endemic, mostly CPC, listing-built creative, on-Amazon remarketing and product targeting. DSP is programmatic, custom creative, endemic or non-endemic, full Amazon + open-web supply. If remarketing is not proven on Sponsored Display, I will not skip to DSP because the deck said “full funnel.”
I do not open DSP on accounts that cannot hold Page 1 on money keywords. When the funnel converts, we start with remarketing (warmest audience), then in-market display. Streaming TV and audio wait until frequency and creative pass QA. Reporting sits next to Sponsored Products: detail-page views, branded search, new-to-brand — not DSP last-click alone. Amazon Marketing Cloud is how overlap and NTB stop being a guess; that is its own workstream when the instance exists.
Seller Central or Vendor Central brands that already convert on Sponsored Products, have an audience pool, and can live with a longer attribution window — including Streaming TV when frequency and creative pass.
Accounts that cannot yet hold Page 1 on money keywords. Anyone who wants DSP instead of fixing search. Or a managed-service $50k pitch when a self-serve retargeting flight is the honest first step.
If Sponsored Products cannot hold money keywords, DSP does not open. If SD remarketing is unproven, we start there — cheaper, CPC, on-Amazon.
Remarketing first. Amazon in-market next. Lookalikes and AMC custom only when the seed is clean.
Display before Streaming TV. Budget, frequency, dates. DSP without a flight is a leak with better branding.
DPV, branded search, Sponsored efficiency, NTB. Last-click DSP ROAS is not the scoreboard. AMC when overlap is the argument.
Fit check against search and Sponsored Display remarketing. If the funnel converts, we set Amazon Audiences + remarketing, a flight, and a kill rule. If it does not, DSP waits. Streaming TV does not open on day one.
Audience hygiene, flighted budgets, frequency caps, format mix (display / video / STV / audio), DPV and NTB next to Sponsored — not a separate religion with its own slide deck.
Named seats, not a logo wall. Each page says the job, the rail, and what still has to happen in Seller Central or the Ads Console.
Sponsored ads, DSP, and AMC in one execution layer — AI actions for bids, harvest, and pacing, with the operator still owning strategy and kill rules.
Enterprise Amazon intelligence plus ad automation: Seller Central, Vendor Central, and Ads in one layer — used when a catalog is too large for a spreadsheet harvest.
Long-context read of search-term exports, change logs, and playbooks — drafts the founder note. Does not bid, does not log into Seller Central.
Almost never. Fix Sponsored Products first. DSP is expensive awareness on top of a converting funnel.
No. Sponsored Display is mostly CPC, endemic, listing creative, on-Amazon remarketing. DSP is CPM, custom creative, Amazon + open web + Streaming TV. Different auction, different job.
Self-serve for a retargeting flight you can actually operate. Amazon’s managed-service typical floor is about $50,000 USD. I will not put a mid-market catalog on a managed minimum to look enterprise.
After remarketing display is producing DPV, frequency is capped, and the creative will not embarrass the brand on Prime Video. STV is not a week-one format.
Not to launch a clean retargeting flight. Yes to answer overlap and true NTB once DSP is spending. That is the AMC workstream — not a SQL hobby parked next to the ads login.
Both can run DSP. 3P and 1P brands buy the same audiences. The gate is still a converting on-Amazon funnel, not which console the PO lives in.
Enough to flight for more than a weekend and still keep search funded. Amazon does not publish a self-serve dollar floor. If DSP would starve Sponsored, we do not run it.
When that seat is already on the account, or when the catalog needs it. DSP can also run in Amazon’s console. The gate is still a converting Sponsored Products funnel. See the operator stack.
You do not need to hire it to find out if it belongs on the account. Send the public store link. I tell you whether this lever is leaking, whether I am the person to run it, and what week one would be.

If I cannot show the leaks, I decline. You are not added to a roster. A “no” is a complete answer, not a follow-up sequence.
Harvest, defense, listing pass, or “not yet.” Named in writing — not a 40-slide deck and a 12-month PDF.
Capacity is limited because I work the accounts myself. The review is how we decide if this workstream belongs on yours.
Request a free reviewAMC clean-room queries: overlap between DSP and Sponsored, new-to-brand, pathing, and custom audiences you can actually activate — not a SQL hobby.
Tag off-Amazon traffic — Google, Meta, email, influencer — so DSP and external spend stop guessing which click sold the ASIN.
Dagelijkse bid-, budget- en search-termcontrole over Sponsored Products, Brands en Display.
Ads, listing, defense en DSP-meting in één weekplan.
